Have your say on proposed changes to the Lincolnshire Lakes Area Action Plan

The £1.2bn Lincolnshire Lakes project will create a number of high-quality, sustainable villages on land between the western edge of Scunthorpe and the River Trent, set within an attractive waterside setting with major opportunities for leisure, sport and recreation. All new development will meet the highest environmental standards and is a central element of the council’s planning blueprint for future development of North Lincolnshire.

The Lincolnshire Lakes Area Action Plan sets out the framework to deliver this billion pound project. It sets out the planning policy framework to deliver the vision and ensure it is achieved in a consistent and properly planned way. It will set out where the villages will be located and what they will look like; it will show where the open space and lakes will be. Most importantly it will identify what infrastructure is needed and by when to make it happen.

Councillor Liz Redfern, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “It’s important that residents let us know what they think about the proposed changes to the Lincolnshire Lakes Area Action Plan. We want to ensure that we get the Area Action Plan right as it will be used in future to help make planning application decisions for the Lincolnshire Lakes area.

“We are investing over £13m to improve flood defences as part of the £1.2bn Lincolnshire Lakes project; work will start in spring 2016. It is important that the necessary flood defences are in place; this forms a key part of the project. Residents need assurance that we are doing everything we can to help protect their homes and communities.

“Lincolnshire Lakes is a billion pound project that will make a huge difference to North Lincolnshire and its economy, which is why we are keen to get all residents involved in this consultation. So please take this opportunity to have your say.”

Alternatively you can take a look at the paper copies at the Civic Centre in Scunthorpe and electronic versions are available at Local Links and Libraries in Scunthorpe (Bottesford, Park, Riddings, Scunthorpe Central and Westcliff mobile library). At all other libraries you can access the computers to view the consultation.

All comments on this consultation should relate to the proposed changes, it is completely separate to any previous consultations.

Once the eight-week consultation has ended all responses will be collated and sent to the Planning Inspector examining the Lincolnshire Lakes Area Action Plan for consideration, alongside the comments from the previous consultations. Once the considerations are complete, the Inspector will send a report and recommendations to the council.

The Area Action Plan will then be adopted by the council and form part of the development plan for North Lincolnshire. It will then be used for making decisions on planning applications in the Lincolnshire Lakes area.
