The group, called First Friends, was launched on Monday, January 25, at Edlington’s Children’s Centre, at Hill Top Primary School, Edlington Lane, but groups will be held across Doncaster, including at Edenthorpe, Intake, Stainforth, Bentley, Bawtry and Mexborough.

The project is being spearheaded by health visitors Karen Smith and Rebecca Pease, supported by their team.

Rebecca said: “We are pleased to announce the introduction of several new ‘First Friends’ groups across Doncaster, the groups are aimed at parents with babies from the antenatal stage until their babies are mobile around the floor.

“Becoming a parent can be one of the most wonderful but challenging life experiences and these groups aim to offer a supportive environment where parents can meet other parents and share tips and strategies,” she added. “The groups are run by the health visiting team and offer up-to-date advice about baby brain development, responsive parenting, health advice and provide play activities aimed at promoting healthy attachment.

“Getting out to a group with a new baby and meeting new people takes confidence and a lot of effort, but it is so worth it. Mums and babies who attend make friends for life.”
