Green-fingered Sheffield woman raising awareness of the National Gardens Scheme

A garden owner has been raising awareness and promoting the good work of the National Gardens Scheme (NGS) at her place of work, the Department of Works and Pensions in King's Court, Sheffield.

As part of her employer’s Learning at Work initiative Christine Sanderson recreated the feel of attending a NGS open garden.

With the theme of Connect and Grow Christine’s work colleagues were able to purchase plants and have a go on the tombola to win some homemade and gardening prizes. Of course a garden visit isn’t complete without a slice of cake and eight delicious bakes were on sale. The garden theme continued even across the baking as the cakes included flavours such as lemon & thyme and chocolate and garden mint.

A display of some of the local gardens in the area allowed everyone to see some of the places to visit over the coming months.

Christine said: “We had an amazing day and gave out loads of county booklets and bookmarks.”

Overall £140 was raised to go towards NGS funds.

Christine is already making arrangements for another stall at the beginning of July when she will be selling home-made preserves with ingredients from the garden.
