Great opportunity for Isle engineers of the future

Tata Steel, home to the area’s steelmaking industry, invites young people to find out about engineering and how to apply for a place at the new Humber UTC in Scunthorpe, at a February 19 event.

This is geared specifically to those aged 13 to 16 years old, and their parents.

Potential students will get a fantastic opportunity to meet face-to-face with key business people at some of the region’s largest organisations such as Able UK, Tata Steel, Smart Wind, University of Hull and Cristal. Representatives from the region’s first UTC – opening in September 2015 – will also be there.

Attendees will be able to get involved by taking part in interactive sessions to help them understand about the world of engineering and what it entails.

And there will be chance for students put their questions to the experts.

Those aged 14 need to arrive for 9.30am. Those aged 15 and 16 should get there for 10.30am.

The Humber UTC provides a unique opportunity locally. Besides specialising in engineering and renewables, it will offer essential subjects such as English, science and maths.

Already around 90 people have registered for places and applications will be accepted on the day of the 19 February event.

Every student who successfully completes studies at the Humber UTC will be guaranteed a job interview with a partner business or a conditional offer to study at the University of Hull.

Pivotal to this of course is the need to have the right skills. The Humber UTC will specialise in engineering and renewables – the industry of the future – and is therefore the ideal place for those wanting to learn more about it.

“With the right skills and qualifications, a career in engineering could lead to a whole range of opportunities in a wide variety of businesses all over the world. I appreciate it is hard knowing what you want to do while you are still at school but it is vital that people start to think hard about their future. That is why we are hosting these events so that students can learn more about engineering and what it entails, plus how they go about finding a career in this field.
