Golf round-up: Knowles wins 11th consecutive Hickleton title

Alison Knowles has won the Hickleton Golf Club ladies' championship for the 11th consecutive year.

The 23-year-old, who plays off a handicap of minus 2, carded a gross 71 and gross 72 for a total of 143 in the two-day competition at the weekend.

Alison, who has just finished her fourth year at Michigan University, where she is studying for a sports degree, was just 13 at the time of her first success

Runner up was 18-year-old Jasmine Rees, who carded a gross 176 gross over the two rounds.

Fourteen-year-old Amy Nowell (154) recorded the best net score, dropping her handicap from 20 down to 18 in the process.

Keith Christian (gross 93 net 72) enjoyed a three stroke victory in Thornhurst Park’s weekly medal competition.

Norman Riley (gross 99 net 75) was runner-up with Paul Fox (gross 87 net 76) finishing third.

Tony Wood (38 points) took the honours in the club’s monthly stableford. Beverly Valentine (35) was second and Keith Christian (34) third.

Colin Woodhouse (33 points) pipped both Norman Rileyn and Tony Wood, who also posted a score of 33 points, on a better back nine to win the club’s June stableford.

Woodhouse (gross 92 nett 72) was also in good form the following day in a medal competition. Ken Hall (gross 82 net 74) was second and Beverly Valentine (gross 100 net 75) third.

Kath Smith (32 points) led the way home in Doncaster Town Moor’s Ruth Bridgewater single stableford competition at the weekend.

Annette Cunningham (31) was runner-up and Cynthia Pickersgill (25) third.
