A festival spokesman said: “Doncaster is a great place to be if you like music.

“Every weekend without exception and with very little effort you can find a venue to watch and listen to live music of any genre that takes your fancy.

“Doncaster is also the home to the annual Doncaster Folk Festival, now in its eighth year.

“The festival is an important event for the town and takes over our streets, as well as several indoor venues.

“If you have come across strangely dressed men waving sticks you know you have stumbled on a Morris Team, taking part in the Day of Dance.

“I you wander into Doncaster Brewery & Tap, the Mason’s Arms, or the Salutation on an afternoon during the festival weekend, you are likely to hear strumming guitars and hearty voices.”

This year’s festival takes place over the weekend of Friday to Sunday, May 20 to 22, with the spring showcase taking place at the town’s Ukrainian Centre on Saturday, March 12.

The spokesman said: “A Doncaster Folk Festival showcase does what it says – showcasing the Festival proper and often introducing an act that can be seen at the main event.

“Flossie is a French singer who has been on the British folk scene since 2000.

“True to her French roots, this amazing vocalist covers the songs of Jacque Brel and Edith Piaf, while adding to the mix some Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and Frank Sinatra, among others.

“Flossie has 12 albums under her belt and, although she doesn’t write her own songs, she truly claims those that she sings with her unique interpretations.”

Joining Flossie at the showcase will be Sheffield singer-songwriter Paul Pearson, known as the Steel Troubadour, and hometown favourites Coil, performing some of their favourite Bob Dylan songs

The spokesman said: “Paul’s powerful and passionate performance brings an eerie, hair-standing-up-on the-back-of-your-neck quality to the stage giving you the sense that you are in the presence of music history.

“Coil have been writing songs and playing together around Doncaster for so long that they can read each other’s minds.

“They are clearly great friends as their often comic banter shows, but they are also tremendous musicians.

“Their repertoire is eclectic and often self-penned, however, on the night they will be performing a set of their favourite Bob Dylan songs.”
