Start the new year in style with a relaxed evening at the recently refurbished Mowbray Arms, and pay nothing at all for a complimentary bottle of red, white or rose wine as you dine with companion of your choice.

The wine worth at least £12 can be claimed after you fill in the coupon printed in this week’s Epworth Bells, and hand it in at the Mowbray Arms when you go along for your meal out.

This offer lasts all week from January 8 this week to January 14 (bar Sunday) and is a great opportunity to treat yourself at the cosy, unpretentious eatery and pub that boasts a wide choice of home-cooked pub food favourites.

Already, manager Shaun Scalley offers two steaks and a bottle of wine as a special deal on Tuesdays for £20, and carveries on Sundays from noon to 6pm. Curry nights have proved popular and feature on Thursdays for £6.95 to include a drink.

During lunchtimes from Tuesday to Friday, two main courses cost just £9.50 and include favourites such as fish, chips and peas, or steak and ale pie. Food is served from 5pm to 9pm Monday to Friday, noon to 8pm on Saturdays. Enjoy your New Year treat!

The Mowbray offers live music on a regular basis with the next performance featuring Isle group the Scrapyard Dogs booked for February 28. Manager Shaun Scalley arrived at the hostelry in the spring of 2014 and said his first Christmas in Epworth has been “fantastic”.

A warm welcome is assured to both drinkers and diners at the Mowbray Arms, whatever the day or occasion. The pub also boasts thriving pool and darts teams and regularly supports community efforts and charities with special events.

It was particularly involved in the Isle’s first Tractor Run in the summer, when Shaun put on a hearty meal for participants. Everyone who turned out to watch the spectacle was also able to enjoy a Spitfire fly-past from the vantage point of the pub, as the aircraft made a special detour to include the charity event.

The Epworth and Isle of Axholme Rotary Club meets and holds fundraisers at the venue, and the folk club meets on a regular basis for music nights.

Enjoy your wine with meal as this week’s give-away, courtesy of the Mowbray Arms and the Epworth Bells, and be sure to visit the pub again in the near future.

Situated in a quiet, residential part of Epworth, the attractive pub is still in walking distance of the town centre, but has its own sizeable car park.
