Free day’s fishing is on offer worth £5 at new fishing ponds in Crowle

To help David Johnson and his wife Lindsay realise their dream they have teamed up with the Epworth Bells to offer lucky readers a completely free pitch for the day, worth £5, at either of their two newly opened fishing ponds on a six-and-a-half acre site at Northmoor Road. Simply cut out the coupon on page 14 of the October 1 edition of the Epworth Bells and hand it over when you visit the site.

The two ponds contain all manner of game fish for the keen angler in the strip pond and horse shoe shaped pond, including bream, tench, carp, roach and idle.

Father-of-two, David, 37, said the ponds were now open for match and day fishing and he was keen that more people take up the sport, especially youngsters.

He added: “When I was young fishing ponds were miles away and many turned away from the activity as a result. With this new £80,000 facility I hope to encourage more youngsters to come along. As part of this, perhaps once a month, or once every two months, I hope to introduce a free pitch for every youngster who comes along.”

On the strip pond there are 20 fishing pegs and on the horse shoe shaped pond, 23, so anglers need never miss out. And the size of fish range from small ones to 20 pound fish, but who knows what size they will grow to?

The project to create the fishing complex has taken David and Lindsay five years to realise. To keep the fish stock levels high the site also has two breeding ponds to ensure a healthy stock of prime fish are always introduced to the ponds to keep day visitors and match fishermen alike happy.

David further added: “I would like to open up fishing to all kinds of groups including schools, special needs groups and the disabled. This is an ongoing project and we hope to improve things as we go along. This is an ambition realised and it also gives me an opportunity to give something back to the community – it is a facility I didn’t have when I was younger.

“I am open to many groups using this site and I encourage them to get in contact. I aim to make fishing a pleasurable experience for everyone in the community.”
