Free butterfly bun on offer at Mowbrays of Haxey

To celebrate the welcome that she received in Haxey just over a year ago, Catherine Simpson of Mowbrays is offering readers a free butterfly bun worth £1.25, to exchange with your Epworth Bells coupon whenever you call by for a drink.

Mowbrays is the 2014-15 Epworth Bells Cafe of the Year, after being voted a firm favourite by readers impressed with its food and its service.

It is Catherine’s first business venture although she has a wealth of experience in the trade, and she said she can’t believe how quickly her first successful year in Haxey has gone.

Using locally sourced produce whenever possible, Catherine supplies quality food and drinks that can be enjoyed within the welcoming cafe or taken away for convenience.

These include high quality teas and coffees with numerous other drinks and a very tempting choice of hot and cold foodstuffs.

Expect home-made soups, freshly made hot and cold sandwiches and paninis, speciality platters, jacket potatoes, and a delicatessen stuffed with meats, cheeses, pastries and olives. And don’t forget the delicious home-made cakes that you can sample for free this week.

Full English breakfasts are always on the menu along with such classics as bacon or sausage sandwiches.

Children’s menus are available too, including simple options such as beans on toast or eggs on toast. Speciality breads and choice preserves and chutneys add to the many temptations.

All pies are home-made on the premises each day, and the steak slice, chicken and mushroom pie and Cornish pasties come highly recommended. Other treats include freshly cooked lasagne, chicken curry and chilli con carne.

The cafe is open from 9am to 3pm on weekdays Monday to Friday and from 10am to 2pm each Saturday.
