The coupon is valid from Thursday February 19 to Wednesday February 25, coinciding with National Chip Week that celebrates the humble yet ever popular tasty treat.

It is said that in the time of Charles Dickens, Britain had fried fish warehouses – shops that sold fish and bread.

But a few decades later the population discovered how delicious it was to add chips. And the fish and chip shop was born!

Newman’s, which has carried on this great meal time tradition, is owned by father Chris and daughter Caroline Newman (above), who opened their fish and chip takeaway 18 months ago.

Chip off the old block Caroline, 37, said: “This is a fantastic mouth watering offer for your readers. I would urge them to use the coupon and come into the fish and chip shop.

“We have been open now for 18 months. All our fish is fresh and we source our potatoes from local farms.

People coming here can be sure of great tasting food as we have a five star hygiene rating from North Lincolnshire Council and are constantly evaluating ourselves to ensure we give our customers the best.”

She said she aims to make the takeaway the ‘plaice’ to be, adding: “We have been trained by, and are backed by, Leeds-based National Fish Federation to ensure we maintain high standards.”

The takeaway sells traditional fish and chips – adult, older people and children’s portions – along with sausages and a selection of Wright’s pies including steak and kidney, mince and onion and chicken and mushroom.

Takeaway opening hours are Tuesday to Saturday 11.30am to 1.30pm and 4.30pm to 8pm with the outlet closed on Monday and Sunday.

Newman’s serves up succulent chips and crispy battered fish during opening times and Caroline said she was pleased customers felt the take-away was ideal to buy their fish and chip fix.

Caroline continued: “We aim to serve great food and to cater for all age groups and tastes in the community.

“We even use palm oil for frying, which is suitable for vegetarians and the weight conscious.”
