Street-based youth work will see young people in Hexthorpe involved in challenges outdoors over the next four years.

The ‘Young People’s Project’ is a four-year scheme funded by the Big Lottery and reaching out to local young people.

It aims to involve youth from within the area, bringing them closer together in programmes of ‘positive activity’, building on successful street-based youth work projects delivered by regional charity The Youth Association over years.

Dmitry Fedotov, Enterprise and Communities Manager at The Youth Association, said: “We believe that the methods and values of youth work make it one of the most effective ways of engaging young people in a positive way. Detached youth work is designed to remove the obstacle of lacking provision for 13-19 year olds in places like Hexthorpe, where young people have few things to do and end up socializing outdoors.”

The project will also offer accredited learning to local young people to improve employability and education prospects.

Doncaster Central MP Rosie Winterton praised the project and said it will make a big difference to the lives of teenagers in Hexthorpe.
