Former Doncaster Rovers player passes away aged 57

A former Doncaster Rovers player, who later made a name in South Yorkshire for his football coaching work, has passed away aged 57, it was confirmed last night.

Steve Adams played for Rovers in the 1980s, before setting up the Sheffield Wednesday Football Club Community Programme and his own Tricky Wingers coaching business in 2006.

Mr Adams' death was confirmed by a Sheffield Wednesday spokesman on Twitter last night.

They said: "Tonight, we are saddened to learn of the passing of Steve Adams, a Wednesdayite and former Community Programme Manager at the club. RIP."

The Sheffield dad confirmed in 2012 that he was battling cancer, but that did not stop the inspirational coach from continuing with his training commitments.

Tributes have begun to pour in for Mr Adams on social media.

Leslie Jane Aspinall said: "R. I. P Steve you lovely, wonderful man."

Matthew Corker said: "Really sad news, he was a great guy and all the kids at Tricky Wingers really looked up to him."

Nick Johnson said: "Saddened to hear that Steve Adams has passed away. A very funny guy who was an infectious coach when he put on sessions for the Derek Dooley Football Academy."

His cause of death has not yet been confirmed.
