Baptist minister, Andy Wilkinson, 26, his wife and team, will be running an Alpha session – as supported and endorsed by no other than adventurer, Bear Grylls – himself a committed Christian.
The session startson Monday (February 27) and is running for the next six weeks and anyone can join in.
Minister Andy said: “Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith, typically run over eleven weeks (However we are running six sessions). Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation.”
He added: “Alpha is run all around the globe and everyone’s welcome. It runs in cafés, churches, universities, homes, bars – you name it. No two Alphas look the same, but generally they have three key things in common: food, a talk and good conversation.
“Since 1992 when it first started running in the UK, Alpha has seen astonishing growth. It is estimated that 29 million people have now tried Alpha in 169 countries. Alpha is free and open to everyone.
“We are starting this on February 27 for six weeks, each session starting at 7pm each Monday and should last about one-and-a-half hours.”
Andy, who grew up in the Isle of Axholme, said each session would consist of an interactive talk and videos with the first session tackling the subject: What Is Life All About?
However deep the subject tackled Andy said each session would be very informal and there was no pressure to speak as people could just listen.
He further added: “Sessions will be held at Epworth Baptist Church in Station Road. I first thought seriously about faith at the age of 17 and became interested through the Wesley Museum in Epworth.
“I got a degree from Cliff Bible College in Derbyshire and wass inducted into the church in May.”
