Flood defences a priority in new set budget

The leading Conservative group has said it will protect and develop frontline services over the next four years. investing over £2.3m to that end.

Schemes to benefit will include £600,000 for literacy for under fives for 2018, £400,000 for young people’s services, £100,000 for care of the elderly plus £180,000 for free adult learning for Over 65’s, £50,000 extra for subsidised bus routes and £1m more for the Community Grant Fund for local good causes, along with other community initiatives.

A Capital Budget of £138m was approved over four years with funds for school building (with schemes agreed at Althorpe, Keadby and Westwoodside), road works, leisure and regeneration schemes.

Additional cash was found for a new Crowle Leisure Centre with pool and for cycleways across the Isle. Crowle town centre gets a boost with additional funding of £350,000 to take it forward.

A new £5.5m pot for flood defence work is put aside, and Axholme councillors are keen to see some of this used at Isle troublespots including the Axholme side of the River Trent.

Increased library hours in Crowle, Epworth and Haxey will be safeguarded over the next four years by £120,000 allocated, and £1,480,000 on bus routes will include improvements to the Isle Shopper service.

Other capital investment in the Isle includes the £5m for Crowle Leisure Centre, £500,000 for cycleways from north to southof the Isle, £150,000 for a Crowle to Gunness cycle scheme, £100,000 on insulation to Keadby properties, and another £100,000 for Belton picnic area with a new visitor centre.

Council leader Liz Redfern said: “We are driving a regeneration agenda, investing in North Lincolnshire.”
