Mallard Primary School staged the event based on the Wesh ‘Eisteddfod’ near St David’s Day, having held much smaller festivals in the past.

Pupils took to the stage to compete in poetry recital and choir, vocal and instrumental performance. A morning arts display involved work from all year groups, with dance performances from many different genres featuring Mallard’s school choir, the street dance club and cheerleading squad.

Later, four pupils (one representing each house) competed for medals in poetry, solo singing and instrumental competition between recorder, clarinet, flute and ukulele soloists. The whole school was involved as pupils tried to out-sing each other in a house choir competition.

Award presentations were made to overall winners of poetry writing, handwriting, and two and three dimensional art competitions. These entries were exhibited within school for parents and visitors to view.

Julie Latham (Deputy Head of Doncaster Music Education Hub) who was a judge said: “I could not believe the tremendous amount of high quality talent. It was so special to see so many staff engaging in what was a unique event. I was overwhelmed with the standard of singing , the diction, projection of tone, dynamics, part singing and song choice, all were highly commendable. It was lovely to see so many young men singing, and the making of some talented instrumentalists.”

She continued: “I feel so proud to have Mallard School as one of our Doncaster primary schools.”
