Firefighters tackle blaze involving 6,000 bales of hay

Firefighters have spent the night dealing with a blaze in Doncaster involving 6,000 bales of hay.

The fire at Bay Villa farm, Sorrell Lane, Fishlake, was discovered just before 7pm yesterday and there are still firefighters at the scene this morning.

Around 8,000 tonnes of hay are involved.

They are allowing the flames to burn out, with their priority to protect neighbouring properties.

The cause is not yet known.

A South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said: "On arrival, crews found approximately 6000 bales of hay well alight.

"Thorne and Askern attended the incident with support from neighbouring fire services in Goole and Snaith.

"Together they have worked tirelessly to bring the fire under control. Efforts are still ongoing."
