Birley Moor firefighters were the first to arrive at the scene, supported by Parkway, Aston Park, Lowedges and two crews from Central fire station.

Group Manager Simon Rodgers, who attended the incident, said: “The first crews to arrive at the warehouse worked quickly and professionally to gain access to the building, put out the vehicle fires and prevent the fire from spreading to the rest of the building.

“There can be little doubt that their actions have prevented many hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of damage being caused.”

The only other damage, apart from to the fork lift trucks, was to a lorry. No one was hurt in the incident. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
