Fire in derelict Belton pub

A FIRE investigation is underway after a fire at a derelict pub in Belton in the early hours of this morning.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service received a call at 3.06am to the property on King Edward Street in the village.

Firefighters from Scunthorpe, Epworth and Crowle attended the scene to deal with a large blaze predominantly in the roof space of the empty pub.

Two main jets and four breathing apparatus were used to deal with the incident.

Firefighters left the scene at 4.34am.

A Humberside Police spokesman said: “The building was seen to be on fire by police and the fire service was called.

“The rear of the Solomon Public House appears to have been forced and a fire started.

“Inquiries are ongoing with fire investigators and police crime scene investigators to establish if the fire was started intentionally.”

The road was closed until 5am.
