Final South Yorkshire Cross Country League fixture is on Sunday

The fourth and final South Yorkshire Cross Country League fixture is on Sunday at Campsall, near Doncaster.

It is also the South Yorkshire Championships and is a compulsory fixture for those wanting to qualify for the league title, along with any two other league races.

Hannah Fletcher (Hallamshire), with two wins, is favourite for the women’s league title with Helen Mort (Sheffield RC) close behind.

Will Gardner, with two runner up spots, leads the men.

In the younger age groups most of the top contenders have near perfect records.

Joe Massingham (Rotherham) in the Under-17 boys, Matthew Stevens (Rotherham), U15, Scott Nutter (Barnsley AC), U13 and Toby Moorwood (City of Sheffield) all have two victories to their credit.

Hallamshire pair Ruby Simpson (U11 girls ) and Jodie Hill (U13) have both won all three races.

Grace Harris of Rotherham has won two races at U15 level and Mary McCarthy (Hallamshire) has two wins and a runner-up spot to her credit.

The men’s race starts the proceedings at 11am am with the women getting underway at 11:45.

The Championship and League presentations will be in Campsall Village Hall after the end of the final race when the results have been processed.
