Fears for swan trapped in ice in Doncaster lake as passers-by call in RSPCA

Upset walkers have called in the RSPCA this afternoon over fears for a swan trapped in ice at a Doncaster lake.

Several people have reported seeing the bird in distress in the ‘Marina’ part of Lakeside for several hours, saying the animal is stuck in the ice.

One concerned eyewitness said: “The swan has been stuck on the ice on the marina part of Lakeside for at least three hours now.

"It is not able to move. Lots of passers by have called the RSPCA who said they are assessing the situation but no one has turned up to help yet.

"Other swans are swimming to the edge of the ice looking like they want to help.”

Freezing temperatures in Doncaster over the last few days have seen lakes and ponds across the region ice over, with the temperature remaining below freezing for most of the week.
