Fears for Bonfire Night in Doncaster as fireworks displays axed across country

Bonfire Night could fail to sparkle in Doncaster this year, with the town’s traditional fireworks displays under threat because of the coronavirus pandemic.

While no decisions have yet been taken on the town’s biggest displays, many other towns and villages across the region and across Britain have been calling off events because of the Covid-19 crisis.

After Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced his ‘rule of six’ restrictions last week, it seems unlikely that many of this year’s displays will be able to go ahead on or around November 5.

Doncaster Rovers’ annual Keepmoat Stadium Big Bang spectacular attracts thousands of families each year while Doncaster Racecourse has also held large firework displays in recent years.

Smaller events at parks, community centres and pubs are also likely to be under threat and even back garden bonfires will be scaled down to comply with gatherings of no more than six.
