Fantastic fundraisers donate £40,000 to North Lincolnshire hospice

The Winteringham and District supporter group has been running for nine years and now they have decided to part ways and end on a high by donating nearly £3,000 raised over a year of fundraising for the hospice on Burringham Road in Scunthorpe.

Two of the ladies, Marayln Aykroyd and Janice Radford, have been part of the group since the beginning and they started the group to support a local, worthy cause which has touched most people’s lives locally.

Maralyn, from Burton upon Stather, is chairlady of the Winteringham and District supporter group. She said: “We have had a fantastic time organising several fundraising events for the hospice such as day trips, flower demonstrations, afternoon tea parties and much more.

“Our highlight has to be the vintage afternoon tea in 2013 where we organised the Bomby Choir Group for entertainment and it went down a treat because we raised so much money from it.

“People are unsure about the hospice when they first hear about it, but when you go and visit it, you will realise what a wonderful, caring place it is. Everyone has been touched by the hospice one way or another and the support for it is massive.”

Anne Millett, community fundraiser for Lindsey Lodge Hospice, said: “We have six other supporter groups covering the North Lincolnshire district and we can’t thank them enough for the hard-work they put in to raise vital funds for the hospice.

“The Winteringham group in particular go that extra mile, especially because there’s only three in the group and they do a fabulous job of raising so much money!

“We are always on the look-out for more people to join our existing supporter groups or even set up a new one.”
