Two people have died and another is fighting for their life after a car smashed into a house and burst into flames in a Doncaster village.
All three people were inside the car at the time of the horror crash in Branton.
The smash happened at around 12.50pm yesterday in Poppyfields Way.
Firefighters, police officers and the air ambulance were on the scene as shocked residents described seeing the car engulfed in flames.
Doncaster Road was closed from the junction of Warning Tongue Lane roundabout to New Road at the junction with Whiphill Top Lane for several hours following the tragedy.
Speaking at the scene, Anette Potter said: “I heard a loud bang and ran outside into the garden.
“I couldn’t see anything but then the air ambulance arrived on the field next to my house.
“I was shocked when I heard what had happened.”
Jordan Yexley, of Moor View, said: “I came out of my house and saw lots of smoke and an ambulance arriving on the scene.”
Another resident, who did not want to be named, said a nurse was among the first on the scene and tried to help those at the crash site.
The resident said: “It was unbelievable.
“The car was in flames and rolled straight into the house on the corner. It rolled straight into the front garden in flames.
“A man came running out. The air ambulance has been here.
“There is a lot of police around and fire engines. There were plumes of smoke.”
Posting on Facebook, Sandra Donnelly said: “Just down the road from me, I heard sirens for ages then helicopters flying overhead so knew something serious had happened.”
