Residents should only visit the centres if absolutely necessary – where excess waste cannot be stored at home safely.

For road safety, the length of queues are being restricted and customers will be asked to return later if the queues are too long.

The council says it may close the sites temporarily if long queues are forming and they are causing an obstruction on the highway.

Only one adult per car will be permitted to attend the centres and a one in one out system will be in place when the site reaches capacity.

Only cars and small vans will be allowed on site. Transit-type vans and trailers of any kind will not be permitted, and the usual permit system will not apply at this time.

Councillor Emma Hoddinott said: “We would like to thank residents for their patience during the lockdown. We are opening the sites but we are expecting longer wait times so please be careful about when you choose to visit and follow the strict new measures put in place in order to protect both those visiting and the staff on site – and only make the journey if it’s absolutely necessary.”
