Fears over thirsty farm

A PROPOSAL to extract large quantities of water from a Doncaster river for a mushroom growing operation is facing opposition.

Tunneltech North, which runs the mushroom farm at Newington, has submitted an application to the Environment Agency for a licence to abstract water from the nearby River Idle.

They want to draw up to 300 cubic metres an hour, 6,000 cubic metres per day and 200,000 cubic metres per year.

Misson Parish Council feels that an increase in production may be planned, which could lead to a decrease in the quality of life for people living within smelling distance of the controversial facility.

Parish councillors agreed to object to the abstraction application and has also informed neighbouring Bawtry Town Council of their opposition.
