Officials at the organisation and at builders Taylor Wimpey have had complaints over the issue that some in Rossington said meant they could not use their gardens and have to keep windows closed.

Rossington is currently seeing major housebuilding as part of a major re-development of an area that was once part of Rossington colliery.

Now officials say they have visited firms on Bankwood Industrial Estate to try to find a solution to the problems. The industrial estate has previously seen residents protest over issues including flies.

Residents say the smell has reduced in recent days.

A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: "We have received a number of reports about odour, dust, noise and litter relating to the Bankwood Industrial Estate and have identified two companies as contributing to the problems. We have carried out a number of inspections and audits at the sites over the past seven months.

"Both companies have now invested in dust control equipment and we will be carrying out a further audit next month to check that they are operating in accordance with their environmental permits.

"We’re working with Doncaster MBC and in partnership with Taylor Wimpey we’ve carried out odour and dust monitoring to further identify the impact to the residents of Rossington.

"Residents may still contact the Environment Agency on 0800 807060 (24 hours) if further issues occur."

A spokesperson from Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire commented: “We’re aware of reports relating to dust, noise and odour from adjacent commercial operations, and that the Environment Agency and the local authority’s Environmental Health department are investigating this.”

They say they were in regular contact with residents who had raised concerns over the issue.

In 2017, residents protested outside the industrial esate because of concerns over flies and lorries on the industrial estate. Action was taken by the firm at the centre of the concerns over the flies to deal with the problem, and plans were drawn up to build a road to reduce the number of lorries travelling through the village.
