Eerie photos reveal inside abandoned Doncaster colliery: PICTURE GALLERY

In its heyday, it employed hundreds of miners, but Doncaster’s abandoned Hatfield Colliery is now a rusting and abandoned shell.

Urban explorer Daniel Gray from North Lincolnshire has captured the state of the pit – which closed in 2015 – on his Facebook page which chronicles buildings from the past.

Opened in 1916, these atmospheric and eerie photos show the state of the colliery today, more than five years after the pit wheels stopped turning.
