PARENTS are being urged to apply a year early for their preferred schools to send their children.
Despite the new school year only just starting, people are being encouraged to get in their applications to avoid disappointment.
This year nearly 99 per cent of applicants were offered one of their preferences and over 95 per cent were given their first choice, authority bosses said.
Those who do not apply run the risk of being offered places at the nearest school with places left.
The closing date is only a matter of weeks away for applications to the borough’s nursery and secondary schools with a later deadline for primaries and juniors.
Coun Eric Tatton-Kelly, cabinet member for children and young people’s service, said: “I’d urge all parents to make sure they apply before the closing date to make sure they have the best chance of securing a place at their preferred school or nursery.
“We do our best to meet everyone’s preferences if they get their application in before the deadline.”
The closing date for 2012 admission to nurseries is October 3 of this year; secondaries is October 31.
The deadline for primary and junior schools is January 15, 2012.
