BOSSES at a Doncaster NHS nursery have turned to robots in a bid to get dads more involved in their youngsters’ education.
But there was no sign of the likes of Wall-E or R2D2 at the event run by the Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust’s Warren Nursery.
Fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, uncles and other carers were given the opportunity to work with their youngsters to build their own model robot out of everyday items such as boxes, buttons and bottle lids, during the event called Rowdy Robots at the nursery’s Balby site.
Nursery nurse Lisa Stacey, who ran the course, reckons the session were good for bonding the dads with their children, and great fun.
She said: “Research suggests that children do better when their father - or a father-figure - is involved in their education.
“These events give man and child the opportunity to build strong bonds with each other and the nursery practitioner, while having lots of fun.”
