Three Doncaster student teams have made the Yorkshire and Humber County final of Young Enterprise with their home-grown companies.

Vying to move further in the competition at Castle Park, Doncaster, on May 5 will be the winners of area finals that took place recently.

These include the ‘Green Bean Company’, from Ridgewood Academy, with its grow your own herbs kits, incorporating used coffee beans in the growing process. Green Bean has already been awarded Best Social, Ethical and Environmental, and Best Innovation and Entrepreneurship titles for their product.

‘Inbition’, from Hill House School, creates maths incorporated storybooks with a moral, and has picked up awards including Best Presentation, Best Financial Management and Best Marketing, Sales and Customer Focus.

‘Doggy DIY’, from Doncaster College, aimed at a perceived gap in the market and so offer a range of dog related pick and mix products that includes treats, toys and a magazine. A fourth team in the mix, ‘Made in Yorkshire’, from Sheffield High School, creates, markets and sells candles and cookery books.

Meryl White, Chair of Young Enterprise South Yorkshire board said: “The level of standard from this year’s companies was outstanding, which is great to see. The range of products and the innovative thinking which has gone into developing, marketing and selling them was phenomenal, from design your own bags and grow your own herb kits, to recipe books and memory boxes for people with dementia.

“We’re very proud of our young entrepreneurs in South Yorkshire and we look forward to seeing them develop within this competition, but also within their future careers.”
