Students from Doncaster College will battle it out in The Great British Weld-Off, a nationwide skills competition to find and crown the UK’s top young welders.
Launched by Morris Site Machinery, the competition has attracted some of the UK’s most promising welders aged between 16 -25 with creative flair and a passion for the industry.
The UK’s leading supplier of site equipment, Morris Site Machinery, will be joined by sponsors Speedy, supplier of hire equipment and Kemppi, global manufacturer of welding equipment.
The new competition will see four teams from colleges across the country go head to head in a series of competitive challenges which will showcase their skills and knowledge of the welding industry. The contest will reward the winning team with a host of prizes including a one year dedicated training programme with Morris Site Machinery and Speedy.
Phil Winnington, Managing Director at Morris Site Machinery said: “As a British firm we are passionate about developing and retaining traditional industry skills within the UK and most importantly we are committed to investing in and encouraging the next generation of welders. We can’t wait to see the apprentices and students in action at the Weld-off later this month.”
“We have had a great deal of interest in this new venture and the standard of entry was very high. All the finalists should feel very proud of their achievements so far.”
The Weld-Off will take place at Morris Site Machinery’s headquarters in Wolverhampton on 26th February 2014. Entrants will be required to demonstrate creativity, skill and safety awareness to impress the panel of high profile judges; Ian Hogarth from The Welding Institute, Richard Denholm from Speedy and Michael Scarrott from EAL.
