Bessacarr couple Eric and Sue Stuart have retired from Doncaster Deaf Trust where they have worked for a combined 80 years.

Staff and pupils at the Leger Way site said farewell to the Stuarts as they embark on new pastimes and sightseeing across the globe on a cruise liner.

Eric, whose final role was head of student services, said: “The Deaf Trust has had links in our family for almost 100 years and deciding to retire was a very tough decision for both of us.

“We have had over 15 members of our family involved with the Trust in one way or another during that time and included our mothers, fathers, cousins, aunts, brothers and sisters.”

Sue started in the school hospital back in 1969 and rose to become head of care.

The couple have attended a Buckingham Palace garden party after being nominated by the Deaf Trust.
