Drugs, cash and weapons seized in police raids in Doncaster

Eight homes were raided yesterday morning in a coordinated series of strikes on homes in Mexborough.

Detective Inspector Steve Smith, said: "Mexborough is an area we are working hard to improve and to eliminate this type of criminality.

"Yesterday morning, we had positive results from the warrants carried out, resulting in the arrest of six people and seizing quantities of cash and drugs found hidden or stashed in a number of properties."

He added: "I want to make it absolutely clear that this type of criminality will not be tolerated in Mexborough, or anywhere across Doncaster, and if you are found to be involved in it, we will take proactive steps to identify and arrest you.

"The activity yesterday is just one element of the work we will be continuing with over the coming weeks and months, working alongside partner agencies as well to tackle specific areas of criminality we know to be an issue within parts of the community.

"I hope that our proactive and high-visibility presence has shown residents that we are taking steps to disrupt and tackle this type of criminality in order to keep our communities safe and make them a better place to live."

Over the next few days police officers and partner agencies will be working in and around Mexborough in the drive to reduce organised crime.

DI Smith said: "Of course, we recognise that there is still work to be done in Mexborough in terms of tackling organised crime and ensuring residents and visitors feel safe. However, yesterday was a positive step in working towards that goal and I hope the community recognise the action taken.

"Today, detectives, PCs, PCSOs and staff from partner agencies will be in the area, carrying our further activity including a clean-up of certain areas and working with residents to address the issues that matter most to them. This work and a high-visibility policing presence will continue into the weekend.

"Local PCs have also been carrying out work in schools in recent weeks, speaking to youngsters about knife crime and educating them on the consequences of carrying a knife and becoming involved in organised criminality.

"Again, I’d like to reiterate that this is just one aspect of our ongoing work in Mexborough and residents can expect to see strong, proactive action taken by us. We are committed to ensuring organised crime groups and the associated criminality are stamped out in this area."
