Drone footage shows extent of Doncaster moor fire as fight moves into fourth day

Drone footage has revealed the extent of devastation at a Doncaster beauty spot as the fight to tackle the blaze moves into a fourth day.

Crews from across South Yorkshire have been tackling the fire on Hatfield Moor since late on Sunday afternoon.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service released the footage as drivers on the nearby M18 and M180 were warned to take care due to smoke drifting across the carriageway and reducing visibility.

A spokesman said: “This drone footage brilliantly illustrates the scale of the incident and has been used by our officers to help formulate a plan for tackling the blaze.”

The inferno has already destroyed acres of moorland and devastated wildlife habitats with high levels of peat continuing to fuel the blaze.

Firefighters are continuing to fight the fires using beaters and water backpacks while the drone is being used to identify hot spots that need to be taken care of.
