Driver arrested after cyclist dies in collision at Nottinghamshire level crossing

A cyclist has died after a crash at a level crossing in Nottinghamshire during rush hour this morning.

British Transport Police said officers were called to the level crossing in Babworth at 8.33am following reports of a collision between a car and a cyclist.

Paramedics also attended, but the cyclist could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the incident, the driver of the car involved in the collision was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and taken into police custody for questioning.

East Midlands Ambulance Service said two paramedics in two ambulance cars and a crewed ambulance were deployed.

An air ambulance also landed close to the crash scene.

Police officers investigating the incident want to hear from witnesses.

BTP said: “Officers were called to a level crossing in Babworth following reports of a collision between a vehicle and a cyclist.

“Paramedics also attended, however very sadly, the cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The driver of the vehicle has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.”

Earlier, rail users were warned to expect delays following an emergency incident.

National Rail Enquiries said all lines have since been reopened but trains may be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes and disruption is expected until around 2pm today.

Customers have been advised not to travel today if possible.

Tickets dated today can be used for travel on Monday, November 23 as there will be no trains to and from London Kings Cross this weekend due to major engineering works.
