A silver Land Rover Freelander was in collision with a black Audi A4 at the roundabout where Hartley Brook Road meets Nether Shire Lane in Shiregreen at 6pm yesterday. Two children travelling in the Audi suffered minor injuries.
South Yorkshire Police said the Land Rover is then alleged to have continued travelling along Nether Shire Lane where it was reportedly involved in a second collision with a blue Rover 100.
An 11-year-old boy passenger in the Rover was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries where he remains in a stable condition. The 61-year-old woman driving the Rover suffered minor injuries. It is understood the Yorkshire Air Ambulance attended and airlifted some of the injured to hospital.
A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving over the prescribed limit. He remains in custody today where he is being questioned by officers.
South Yorkshire Police is now urging any witnesses to come forward.
