A Dream of Shakespeare's comedy set in the modern day

Sheffield People's Theatre return to the Crucible stage for the world première of Chris Bush's comedy, A Dream, a modern day mash-up of Shakespearean romance.

It’s Midsummer’s Eve and there is mischief in the air.

The sound of music thuds from the city below.

Drink flows, songs are sung and vows are made by lovers.

The staff in the A & E Department of the local hospital welcome a flurry of patients through their doors.

All seem vaguely familiar and all seem to be under the influence of something very powerful…

Join a host of Shakespearean characters re-imagined for the 21st century in A Dream.

The play is being performed by a 100-strong community cast and technical team, aged from 12 to 88.

Like Shakespeare’s original play, this drama celebrates love in all its guises and aims to delight audiences of all ages.

Sheffield People’s Theatre aims to create at least one piece of bold, exciting work on the Sheffield Theatres stages at the Crucible and Lyceum every year.

Last year, the People’s Theatre collaborated with Slung Low on Camelot: The Shining City by James Phillips.

In that more than 150 people aged 12 to 87 took audiences on an adventure that started on the Crucible stage and ended in the Peace Gardens.

A Dream comes to the Crucible Theatre from tomorrow to Saturday.
