Many pubs have introduced a booking system – and many have been innudated with customers keen to raise a pint to their lips for the first time in months.

Among those busy on the first day of trading were the Hatfield Chace in Hatfield and The Wheatley Hotel, where drinkers could be seen enjoying a few beers in the large beer garden at the rear of the landmark pub.

Many other pubs have reported busy beer gardens, with queues also developing outside stores such as Primark as well as hair salons.
