Doncaster's Daisy sees her work on '˜stairway of fame'

The artwork of a young Doncaster girl features on a gallery's '˜Stairs of Fame' feature, along with some of the biggest names in the contemporary art world today.

Talented seven-years old Daisy Watts from Misson hit the headlines last year, when her original ‘Daisy and Daffodil’ painting raised thousands of pounds for two different charities.

With the support of art lovers around the area, and the Limited 2 Art gallery in Bawtry, Daisy made almost £20,000 for Cancer Research UK and the Doncaster based charity Firefly.

Now her stunning painting has been recreated for the special showcase on a flight of stairs at the art gallery on Market Hill.

Gallery owner Ruth Worsman said: “Daisy joins famous artists such as Kerry Darlington, Edward Waite, David Smith and Stephen Hanson on the Stairs of Fame.

“All have visited our new gallery and we wait with anticipation for the ‘homework’ of Alexander Millar, Craig Everett, Danny Abrahams and Chris De Rubeis who will join Daisy and her artist friends on our amazing staircase.”

Daisy’s inimitable talent and quiet nature saw her original painting sell for over £9,000 at last year’s Equinox Charity Ball.

Limited 2 Art then generated another £10,000 from producing and selling a further one hundred limited edition prints from the original.

Ten artist proofs and ten boxed canvas prints raised even more money, as demand for the painting continued.

“Daisy has a true talent which I am sure is yet to realise its full potential,” added Ruth.

“Words cannot describe how proud I am to have met her through this experience, and to have her create such an individual piece for the gallery staircase.

“I extend my warmest thanks to her and her family.”

Art lovers from across the region will be treated to two more high profile artist visits to the gallery next month.

On Friday, March 3, Hollywood artist to the stars and creator of Sponge Bob Square Pants, Todd White, will visit the gallery.

His appearance will be closely followed by Yorkshire-based contemporary artist Stephen Hanson on Saturday, March 11: his credits include a two year freelance contract with Aardman Animation – the creators of Wallace and Gromit.
