The Pit Club, a mining themed bar, opened its doors in Cleveland Street just before Christmas.

But the venue shut down unexpectedly - less than a fortnight after being unveiled.

Now the bar will be back in business under new ownership as a wine and champagne bar called Huellas on February 27.

A post on the bar's Facebook page said: "Situated in Doncaster town centre is our newly fitted stylish and elegant wine bar catering for the more discerning individual.

"Drinks include an extensive range of wines and champagnes from our wine merchants, many of which are available by the glass, as well as premium beers, ciders and spirits.

"Our ground floor is large and open plan with separate seating areas, the whole bar is flooded with soft lighting and also benefits from a state of the art sound system, we will also be having live music and events throughout the year.

"On our first floor is our more exclusive bar which will be open to members only on certain days of the week, this also leads out onto our fabulous roof terrace which will be the place to be this summer.

"We look forward to you all joining us soon and are aiming to be open by the end of February."

It is still unclear why The Pit Club shut down so rapidly after its opening.

The windows were shuttered, doors chained and a large concrete block was used to seal off the rear entrance in the courtyard off Cleveland Street after less than a fortnight in business.

Fixtures and fittings were removed from the bar and the pub's Facebook page has also been removed from the web.
