The Pennine League Premier Division leaders, who were without a number of regulars for the testing trip to face Castleford-based Fryston, had to settle for a brace of tries by Gaz Carey and a conversion by Joe Barron in a 25-10 defeat.

“It was a really testing game in horrendous conditions and with nine players unavailable it was always going to be a tough challenge,” said coach Ian Tattersall.

“But I learnt a lot about some players and realised there’s a lot of strength in depth at this club and a lot of heart.

“Both teams made a lot of errors but we just seemed to make them early in the set and near our own line which just added more pressure and drained our energy so when we attacked we didn’t really put any pressure on them. I think the result was a fair reflection of the way the game went.

“A couple of big decisions went against us. The lads never gave up though and were a credit to themselves and the club and I’m very proud of them all.”

Despite ending the year on a losing note, Tattersall said 2015 had been ‘a great year for the club’.

“The first team won the Pennine League Championship title and the President’s Cup and the second team competed well in their first season,” he said.

“Both teams are progressing well this season and sit top of their respective divisions. In addition to reaching the semi-final of the Yorkshire Cup for the first time the first team and are in the quarter-finals of the Pennine League Cup.”

He added: “2016 will be an interesting year and one that I hope will bring more success and continued development of both teams.

“It will be difficult but I’m sure everyone associated with the club will be up for the challenge.

“I would like to thank the players, supporters and committee for their efforts over the last 12 months and a special mention to Gary Warner for his continued sponsorship.”
