The Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award students from Hall Cross Academy aim to go out to Malawi in July to give full support to a struggling community.

They want to help build a school library, teach maths and science to children and help wherever possible.

The project is part of the world challenge organisation in Malawi, the poorest country in the world.

Aiden Holian, Tom Humphreys, Lewis Russell, Ursula Fox, Theresa Andryzewska, Tom Cocksedge and Ben Hutton believe they can make a big difference to the community with hard work and determination both before and during their trip.

They are asking local businesses or individuals to get behind them and boost their funds with donations towards their collective target of £18,000.

They hope not only to help build the library for children in Malawi but also to leave it furnished with books to foster education and growth in the community there.

A group spokesperson said: “Our main focus is giving the children of Malawi the opportunity we all have here in Doncaster through our education system. By leaving them with a library full of books this will give them the opportunity to learn, to become educated and for them to gain a life long skill.

“By becoming educated, people in that area will make a difference to themselves, their families, and the wider community of Malawi.”

The group meets every week to plan its fundraising strategy with numerous events and collections.

Efforts so far have included a fundraiser Triathlon, school quiz nights, and bag packing for donations at supermarkets.
