Doncaster teenager Josh Berry wins The Junior European Open 2018

Golf starlet Josh Berry has capped a sensational year by winning The Junior European Open 2018 in Spain.

Berry, from Kirk Bramwith, went into the final round at the Alcaidesa Links in tenth place following rounds of level par and +2.

The 13-year-old Campsmount Academy pupil then proceeded to shoot a brilliant -4 to top the leaderboard by one shot.

Berry had to qualify for the tournament and was competing against some boys three or fours years his senior.

The Junior European Open, which was first staged in 1993 and is now in its 26th year, is widely considered as the toughest test in junior golf across Europe.

Former world number one Luke Donald, 2013 US Open champion Justin Rose and multiple Tour winner Nick Dougherty are among the tournament's alumni '“ all finishing third.

Berry has won an array of international and domestic titles during 2018 and represented England Under-16s in the R&A's Junior British Open.

His European Junior Open success will be shown on Sky Sports on Sunday, December 16.

'What a final day and week,' said Berry on Twitter.

'So happy to win the European junior open 2018 in Spain. Can't wait to see my speech on tele.'

Berry has also tasted victory at this year's IMG Spanish Championships, French National Championships and U14 North of England Championships.

He was also selected for Yorkshire Under 18s' six-strong squad for the National Championships.

The Doncaster Golf Club member plays in men's medals and other men's tournaments at his home club and already represents the Sheffield Union men's team. 

Berry won the prestigious Wee Wonders British Championships at St Andrews at the age of ten and also played in last year's IMG Academy Junior World Championships in San Diego.

His proud dad Scott said: 'It's fantastic what he has achieved at the age of 13.

'He literally never stops. He's playing golf every day.'
