Doncaster swimmer Jarvis Parkinson named in England squad for 2018 Commonwealth Games

The 19-year-old, from Hatfield Woodhouse, is part of a 39-strong squad which will take part in six days of competition in Australia in April.

Parkinson is a graduate of Doncaster Dartes Swimming Club and is now based in Loughborough. He is currently in Dubai at an elite training camp.

The teenager rose to prominence at the inaugural European Games in Baku in 2015, where he posted a personal best time and claimed silver in the 200m individual medley despite suffering a shoulder injury in the build-up to the competition.

A British champion in both the 200m and 400m individual medley, Parkinson last year broke his own English age group record to win 200m IM gold on the penultimate day of the British Championships.

Max Litchfield, another former Doncaster Dartes swimmer, is also in the England squad.

Matt Cross, Doncaster Dartes’ head coach, said: “Jarvis, Joe [Litchfield] and Max are three kids that have come through the programme and gone on to achieve international success. As a club it’s a massive honour to have had these lads come through the system here and played a part in their success.”
