Doncaster Superkids 2018- a celebration of exceptional local youth

This year's show was hosted by Ashleigh Porter-Exley, known for winning the Young Apprentice on BBC, the presentation was held at the Doncaster College on October 10.

Nine awards were handed out to special children who excelled in their areas, the winners were chosen by judges Stuart Morgan and Diane Lawson.

Julia Rodgerson, Head of Content at the Doncaster Free Press said: "There were many deserving winners. It's great for the local paper to share such uplifting news and to highlight the good in Doncaster."

The evening was kicked off by a wonderful performance by college students, who sang classic musical tunes to the audience.

The first award of the night was for fearless bravery, sponsored by Refurnish.

The winner was ten year old Zach Kilkenny who overcame two rare conditions, which required treatment in Barcelona and Zurich.

His outstanding bravery won him this award, he is only one of three patients across the world to suffer from the same condition.

Ros Jones, elected mayor of Doncaster said: "It's a delight to be here at the superkids presentation. It's very humbling to hear what great kid's we have.

"How someone managed to choose winners from such amazing children is beyond me, it must have been so difficult. They are all super kids."

The second award of the night brought a joyous round of applause to the room as there was not just one winner but two.

Luke Smith and Bryan Kilpatrick Elliott jointly won the Dynamic Fundraiser award, presented by Amazon’s Stuart Morgan.

Both boys have done incredible things to raise money for charity, Luke completed a six mile trek in subzero temperatures to fundraise in honour of his quadriplegic baby brother.

And Bryan despite having cerebral palsy has helped to raise disability sport awareness.

Enterprising Star, sponsored by Tommee Tippee was next up, won by eight year old Archie Bob Wright.

Who through his ambassadorial work at Sandal Park has earned the nickname "superhero in a high-vis."

The young lad had quite the night as he also won the Extraordinary Inspirer award later on in the evening.

Lexus Harris was presented the Wonder Writer award by Jenny Willows, the young woman excels in storytelling and attends Doncaster College.

Up next was Mighty Performer which was won by Elysia Wood, the 15 year-old has talent at musical theatre and public performance.

Super Sports Star sponsored by Atherton Godfrey was won by Greta Highfield, a ten year old swimmer who is attending the Egypt World Championships this month.

The penultimate award of the night was Invincible Carer, which was presented by mayor Ros Jones and local hero Ben Parkinson MBE.

Winner Casey Pearson who is just ten years old, helps her mother take care of her three brothers who have special needs.

She once saved one of brothers lives by putting him in a life saving recovery position, when he could not breathe.

Ben said: "I'm really happy to be here, I'm really proud of every one here, they all deserve a medal."

The last award of the night was a little different from the rest as it was awarded for a Super School, Saltersgate Primary in Scawsby won the accolade.

The evening was a joyful celebration of Doncaster’s children and the good they do for the local community.
