Doncaster Sheffield Airport issues coronavirus update as Wizz Air resumes some flights

Doncaster Sheffield Airport has issued an important update to passengers following the easing of coronavirus restrictions.

The airport is still being primarily used for cargo operations, although a number of Wizz Air flights have resumed.

Bosses have unveiled a raft of safety and security measures to help protect staff and passengers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement, a spokesman said: “The safety and well-being of our staff and passengers is our number one priority at Doncaster Sheffield Airport which remains open for vital cargo operations and supplies, medical and military flights and general aviation.

“We strictly follow all guidance from Public Health England and relevant authorities and have implemented rigorous measures across the airport that include:

Enhanced cleaning in the terminal

Installation of hand sanitiser units

Floor markings and signage so that passengers can maintain a safe distance

Displaying the latest public health information throughout the airport including regular announcements

Safety screens at check-in and boarding gates

“We strongly advise passengers on the wearing of face coverings from the moment they enter the terminal building until they exit the terminal building at the destination airport, except for instances such as during security checks or border control.”

It added: “Wizz Air has resumed a select number of flights for those with an essential reason to travel. We strongly urge passengers to adhere to the Government guidelines on essential travel and only come to the airport if it is absolutely necessary to do so. We advise passengers to contact the airline for the latest schedule information.

“Please note, our long stay and premium parking facilities are currently the only options available to all passengers, if you are travelling and have booked into another parking option please proceed straight to Long Stay. If you are dropping a passenger off with us, please use the long stay car park where up to 15 minutes will be free. Press ‘help’ once you arrive at any barrier for any further assistance.”

The Premium Lounge will reopen on August 1 and any bookings that have been made prior to this date will be refunded.

From August 1, all passengers will need to pre-book to gain entry to the Premium Lounge, no walk up entries will be accepted until further notice.
