Business at Doncaster Sheffield Airport is really taking off after it celebrated its busiest month on record.
Passenger numbers for July were its best ever since opening in 2005 - they increased by 42 per cent from the previous year to 141, 155 with the airport on track to deliver over 1.3 million passengers for the year.
The airport has also recently secured a new partnership between Flybe and airberlin, which will enable its passengers to reach even more destinations worldwide. The deal will give Flybe passengers access to airberlin’s network of around 150 global destinations through Doncaster Sheffield Airport’s Berlin and Dusseldorf Flybe routes.
It will make a number of major destinations accessible via Berlin to places including Munich, Zurich, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Gothenburg and Vienna plus another route to New York.
Steve Gill, chief executive of Doncaster Sheffield Airport, said: “This enhanced connectivity further strengthens our message that we should be the first choice for people and business in the Sheffield City Region.
“With the investments made in the ease and convenience of using the airport such as the new motorway link road, terminal investments and expanded connectivity through our Flybe hub routes to Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin and Dusseldorf, we are able to serve more routes locally that we know the region wants to use.
“This is a great example of Flybe’s commitment to providing convenient connections for business and leisure travellers from regional markets.
“With Dusseldorf starting in October, through its excellent high speed rail links, Hamburg and Cologne are now also easily accessible after a short flight.”
Vincent Hodder, Flybe’s chief customer officer, said: “Our new codeshare agreement with airberlin expands the reach of both airlines. It strengthens Flybe’s ‘One Stop to the World’ proposition for our customers in Yorkshire who will benefit from connections to airberlin’s long-haul routes at Dusseldorf and Berlin-Tegel to and from Doncaster Sheffield Airport’s routes.”
