Doncaster Rovers on worst run in four years

Darren Ferguson is keen on keeping his glass half full despite seeing his side's run without a win extended to ten games against Shrewsbury Town.

Rovers’ worst run for four years has seen them drop from 11th in League One at the start of the year to 20th, one place above the drop zone.

“I remain positive,” said Ferguson, whose side travel to Scunthorpe United tomorrow.

“You can put it another way. If you win on Tuesday, you’re five points ahead of Blackpool with 11 games to go.

“That’s how I’m looking at it, and that’s what we have to do.

“We have to find a way of digging out a result. It’s not a case of can we? We have to, regardless of performance, or formation. It’s just about digging out a result. We’ve got a derby match on Tuesday and it’s going to be a battle.”

Rovers’ capitulation is a stark contrast to Ferguson’s first 15 matches at the helm, which produced nine wins.

“This is football, this is the way it is,” said Rovers’ boss.

“If you want to be successful in anything you do, you’ve got to go through the bad times - and come through the other side.

“Clearly, if the league table finished as it is now, with us fifth bottom, I would take that. That’s all the aim is now, because we will have come out the other side.

“It’s not what anyone wants to hear, especially when we were going so well at the start of the year, but that’s the reality of it.

“We’ve been in a relegation fight from day one of this season. Let’s be honest. That’s the reality, and the league doesn’t lie.

“You have your good times but the reality is that since I’ve come in we’ve been in a relegation fight.”
