Doncaster Rovers: Walsall defeat was a kick up the backside, admits Tommy Rowe

Tommy Rowe has admitted that the abject defeat at Walsall in February was a kick up the backside for Doncaster Rovers.

Since that miserable night at the Bescot Stadium - which saw Doncaster trail 4-0 before scoring two late consolation goals - Rovers have won ten out of a possible 15 points and kept three clean sheets.

Those points have moved Rovers clear of the League One drop zone and raised hopes of a top half finish upon the club’s return to the third tier.

“We reacted really well to the defeat,” said Rowe.

“That might be the impetus in the young squad.

“With young minds, they don’t like to lose in that fashion.

“We’ve performed really well on the back of those sorts of performances.

“I think it was a kick in the right way.

“Hopefully there won’t be any more of them this season and never again.

“Like the gaffer said after that game, it was a one off.

“He doesn’t want to see that again in his management so we’ll look to keep that promise and push on.”

Rovers’ League One fixture against AFC Wimbledon at the Keepmoat Stadium, postponed on Easter Monday due to a waterlogged pitch, has been re-arranged for Tuesday, May 1 (7.45pm).

Due to a backlog of games, Rovers will now end the season with six games in 19 days - five of which are to be played at home.
