Doncaster Rovers: Three wins will give us a chance - Ferguson

Darren Ferguson believes victory in each of Doncaster Rovers' last three games will give them a great chance of securing League One survival - despite declaring last night's draw at Chesterfield a '˜lost opportunity.'

Rovers were the much more threatening side at the Proact but could not find a winner after the Spireites’ Gboly Ariyibi cancelled out Tommy Rowe’s opener.

The draw edged Rovers a point closer to survival after fifth bottom Shrewsbury Town were beaten by Sheffield United, leaving them five points adrift heading into the final three games.

And Ferguson is remaining positive about their chances.

“I felt we had to win our last five but we certainly have to win the last three to give us a chance,” he said.

“But that would give us a chance.

“I think if we win the last three I think we can stay up.

“I think we’ve got a chance, maybe not a good chance, but we’ve got a chance.

“If we get to 51 points, we obviously have to depend on others dropping points but that has been the case for a while now.”

Ferguson was pleased with his side’s performance against the Spireites and said he could not quite believe they had failed to win.

He said: “The performances are good, the players are playing good football but we have to get the wins and I think tonight was a real lost opportunity to really put the pressure on the teams above us.

“Fortunately they have got beat and we’ll just take it a game at a time.

“I’ve said it to the players that we have to focus on one thing - Coventry on Saturday. Focus on getting a similar performance and when we get the chances, take them.”
